Can’t Cram for Judgement
1 Thessalonians 5:2 -“For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.” I always made good grades in school. I wasn’t particularly intelligent, I just had an uncanny ability to cram for tests and papers the night before they were due. I would hit “snooze” on my alarm as much as possible, determining to study “later”. That doesn’t work with Christianity though. There is no cramming for the day of judgment.
First of all, we can’t cram for a test when we have no idea when the test will be administered. How can we cram for a test that sneaks up on us like a thief in the night? Second, spiritual growth is a process. We must “grow in respect to salvation” (1 Pet. 2:2). Preparing for judgment requires learning to walk in the light; learning to put on God’s armor (1 Thess. 5:4-8). What if judgment comes before you finish reading this article? Have you been sober, alert, and diligent to be found ready, or have you been hitting the spiritual “snooze” button, deciding you’ll take God seriously “later”?
