The Blessing of Repentance
Proverbs 3:7-8 - “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.” Many come to Jesus, yet fail to experience the satisfaction He offers in its fullest sense. Many read of the incredible spiritual blessings offered in Christ (Eph. 1:3-14), yet feel they are somehow missing out on the fullness of those blessings. The cause? A failure to repent. Repentance was the central teaching of Christ (Matt. 4:17).
It is only when we turn away from our former way of life and turn toward living for God that we can truly experience life more abundantly. Living a life of good works in Christ frees us from the miserable shackles of sin (Rom. 6:17-18), gives us a more confident hope of Heaven (Rom. 5:3-4), allows us to be led by God’s Spirit (Rom. 8:13-14), enriches our relationships with others (Rom. 14:19), and saves our
souls (Acts 2:38). We usually don’t think of repentance as a blessing in Christ, but it is! In fact, in one sermon, Peter said repentance was the main blessing Christ was sent to bring (Acts 3:26)! Brethren, let us “repent and live” (Ezek. 18:32)!
