The Freedom Of Boundaries

Deuteronomy 6:24: “So the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes... for our good always...” People avoid preparing budgets because they fear financial boundaries. The irony is that with the establishment of financial boundaries comes great freedom. Without a budget, we are “free” on paper, but in our minds, we are trapped in financial bondage, constantly harassed by the question, “can I really afford this?” A budget helps us know exactly what we can afford so we can experience the peace of knowing we are living within our means.

Many refuse to obey God because they want “freedom,” but in truth they only find vanity, misery, bondage, and fear (Ecc. 2:25-26; Rom. 6:20-23; Heb. 2:14-15). Only those who strive to keep God’s commandments can live life abundantly (Deut. 4:1-8; John 10:10) with the peace of knowing they are pleasing to their Creator (1 Cor. 4:4; Heb. 11:6). We can resist
God’s boundaries all we want, but there is a lot of lost sleep outside them. If we want the freedom to desire life, to love and see good days, let us turn away from evil and do good, knowing that God’s eyes are toward the righteous (1 Pet. 3:10-12).
