Hanging On Every Word
Luke 19:48 - “...and they could not find anything that they might do, for all the people were hanging on to every word He said.”Why are people amazed at the concept of living and worshipping only according to what Jesus says in His Word? If we claim to be following Jesus and His apostles’ instructions to the “T,” people cry out, “legalist! Literalist! Fundamentalist!” Is it so foolish to “hang on to every word” Jesus said? Should we rather hang on to every word our preacher says, every word our family says, or every word our friends say? Remember, Jesus taught as one having authority, not as the scribes (Matt. 7:29).Jesus’ apostles taught with authority too because He filled them with the Holy Spirit (John 16:13-15). That’s why the apostle Paul could claim, “the things I write to you are the Lord’s commandment” (1 Cor. 14:37). Jesus is the key to salvation (Acts 4:12). Jesus is the Word (John 1:1,14), and we will all be judged in the end by His words (John 12:48). Should we only hang on to some of them? Should we only hang on to most of them? Let’s be like the people in Luke 19. Let’s hang on to every one of His words, and get as many people as possible to hang on with us!
