The Bible is About You
In Stranger than Fiction, (please watch on vidangel.com with filters), Harold Crick hears the voice of a female author narrating his life in third person. She describes everything he does in masterful detail. At first, he tries to ignore it. However, after he resets his malfunctioning watch, the narrator says, “Little did he know that this simple, seemingly innocuous act would result in his imminent death.” That hit Harold like a ton of bricks, and the rest of the movie is about his quest to find out who she is and what she meant.
Stories are entertaining until we realize they’re about us; then they can be scary. When Nathan told David a story about a rich man who stole a poor man’s only sheep, David was outraged! Then Nathan hit him with it: “You are the man.” That story was about David’s sin, and it brought him to his knees in humility and repentance. (2 Sam. 12:1-15). Jesus told a story about a vineyard owner who put vineyard keepers in charge while he was away. When he sent his servants, and even his only son to collect the harvest, the vineyard keepers killed them all! “The Pharisees understood that He spoke the parable against them. And they left him and went away.” (Mark 12:12). The Bible story is about you. It’s about me. Will we humble ourselves like David and admit, “I have sinned,” or will we harden ourselves like the Pharisees and walk away?
