A Voicemail You Don’t Want
Your phone rings. The caller ID says, “Wisdom.” You’re too busy to answer, so you let it ring. The next day, the phone rings, the caller ID says, “Wisdom.” You’re engaged in a foolish activity, so you let it ring. The next day, the phone rings, the caller ID says, “Wisdom.” You know Wisdom wants to talk about heavy things you don’t want to talk about right now, so you let it ring. The next day, the phone rings, the caller ID says, “Wisdom.” You know Wisdom is just going to ask you to change, and you want to keep doing what you want to do, so you let it ring. This time Wisdom leaves a voicemail:
“Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention; and you neglected all my counsel and did not want my reproof; I will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes, when your dread comes like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. Then you will call on me, but I will not answer; you will seek me diligently but you will not find me, because you hated knowledge and didn't to choose the fear of the Lord.” (Proverbs 1:24-28). When Wisdom calls, pick up the phone and listen — before she leaves a voicemail you don’t want.
