Make the Most of Your Time
Make the Most of Your Time
“Make the most of your time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:16). Every day is a long term investment. What we choose today not only affects today, but tomorrow, next week, next year, eternity. With every choice, we’re not just doing, we’re becoming. Our goal is to become more Christ-like (Rom. 8:29; 1 Jn. 3:3), but that won’t happen simply because time passes. Time passes for everyone. The Hebrew writer rebuked his brethren because “By this time you ought to have been teachers…” (Heb. 5:12a). Time passed but they didn’t grow. We only grow by making the most of the time that passes.
Jesus taught to use today to lay a good foundation for the future. Jesus told us to “Store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven,” (Matt. 6:20) and “Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life.” (John 6:26). Paul chose to suffer for Christ today, but he knew that was “producing for me an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison” (2 Cor. 4:17). Conversely, many chose to reject Jesus, and their stubbornness today was “storing up wrath for themselves in the day of wrath.” (Rom. 2:5). Every day is a long term investment, whether good or bad, in our earthly and eternal well-being. How are you investing your time?
