Let the Small Point to the Big

Let the Small Point to the Big

When God answered Hannah’s prayer for a child, she thanked Him for salvation!  “My heart exults in the LORD; my horn is exalted in the LORD, My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, because I rejoice in Your salvation.” (1 Samuel 2:1).  To Hannah, God’s smaller blessing pointed to His bigger blessing of salvation!  God’s faithfulness to her foreshadowed His faithfulness to all His godly ones in judgment (2:9-10).

When God blesses us in small ways, it should give us confidence He’ll bless us in the biggest way in Heaven!  When God comforts our broken hearts, it’s a foretaste of Heavenly comfort.  When He embarrasses our enemies, it’s a foretaste of final vindication.  When He gives us houses, apartments, families, jobs, it’s a foretaste of eternal blessings.  Don’t misunderstand.  We’re not guaranteed Heaven just because we have good things in this life; God sends rain on the just and the unjust (Matt. 5:45).  No, the point is to look for God’s faithfulness in the little things.  If we want more hope in the big promise of Heaven, just look at all the small ones God keeps.  “He who is faithful in a very little thing is also faithful in much…” (Luke 16:10a).
