No Moral Standard without God

No Moral Standard without God

“In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 21:25).  When we reject God as king, morality becomes subjective.  This is where atheism leads.  If there’s no God, who gets to decide what’s right and wrong?  Some atheists argue morality based on personal preference, but if that’s the case, they can’t demand that a murderer be punished for his crime.  After all, it’s the murderer’s preference to murder, so who am I to judge anyone else’s preference as wrong?

Other atheists argue morality based on what society as a whole determines is right and wrong.  Uh…which society?  The German society in WW2 that determined it was good to murder millions of Jews?  American society in the 1800’s that determined it was good to enslave people based on the color of their skin?  Also, what if societies disagree about what’s right and wrong?  How can one society say another society is wrong?  Without God, there is no objective basis for right and wrong, only opinion and feeling.  How refreshing to know God and for Him to tell us exactly what’s right and wrong in His word! “You are good and do good; teach me Your statutes.” (Psalm 119:68)
