Would You Debate Solomon?
1 Kings 4:29 - “Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.” Would you debate this man? Would you challenge him to a battle of wits? I wouldn’t. He was blessed by God as the wisest man on earth and demonstrated it with his split second decision over the baby in 1 Kings 3 (pun intended). No one challenged him saying, “I think you should have handled that differently.” Who could? It was brilliant!
Then a thousand years later, Jesus walks on the scene and makes a bold claim: “Behold, something greater than Solomon is here.” (Matt. 12:42). Yet the religious elite challenged Jesus and tried to debate Him all the time. How foolish to think you could win a debate with the Son of God! After Jesus embarrassed them, “No one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day on to ask Him another question.” (Matt. 22:46). Sadly, people still debate and argue with Jesus today. Unbelievers doubt He has any wisdom. Believers challenge, negotiate, and try to water Jesus’ wisdom down. It’s a losing battle. If you wouldn’t debate Solomon, don’t even think about debating King Jesus. “In Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Col. 2:3)
