Evangelism Challenge: Gently Correct Those in Opposition

Evangelism Challenge: Gently Correct Those in Opposition

Paul instructed Timothy, “The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will” (2 Tim. 2:24-26).

Our new evangelism challenge is to do precisely what this passage says: gently correct those who are in opposition (key word: gently). This is our obligation, whether the individuals be false teachers, friends, family members, or even erring brethren.

This may be the most difficult evangelism challenge of all, but we can do it! When we do, our odds of changing people’s behaviors and beliefs increase significantly. Never forget, the goal isn’t to win arguments but to save souls!
