True Beauty
True Beauty
“Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.” (Prov. 31:30). One of the most destructive lies Satan ever told was that a woman’s true beauty is external. He has convinced billions of women that beauty comes from makeup, a “hot” body, and clothes that show off that body. Just go to the mall and it’s obvious how many believe it. To be clear, God isn’t anti-beauty. He created all women beautiful. The old joke goes that she’s called “woman” because Adam said, “Wo! Man!” when he first saw her.
God wants women to see that true beauty is found in one’s character. That doesn’t mean it’s wrong to wear makeup or to care about looks. Women don’t have to dress in rags like Dobby the house-elf. It’s a priority shift, investing far more time and energy on inner beauty than outer beauty. The book of Proverbs is bookended by the fear of the Lord. In Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” In Proverbs 31:30, “a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised.” True beauty is found not just in a woman’s body, but in a woman who embodies God’s wisdom.
