Evangelism Challenge: Make Emotional Connections

Emotional connections are vital in evangelism. Simply showing people you care enough to check up on them from time to time can go a long way. The key to forming emotional connections is maintaining the relationship through small, thoughtful interactions. We shouldn’t let the relationship fade through neglect.

In my experience, the most effective method is sending short, thoughtful texts about once a week. Here are three kinds of texts you can send:

  • Simply ask them how life is treating them. If you know of specific difficulties in their life, ask about those.
  • Tell them you are praying for them. Type out the prayer word for word if you like.
  • Send them an encouraging Bible verse.

Obviously these messages can be communicated in other ways besides texting. I prefer texting because it’s the easiest for me.

Your evangelism challenge is to maintain an emotional connection with a “prospect” by communicating with them in a caring way once per week. Use texting or any other method. Keep this up for at least four weeks and see if spiritual doors of opportunity begin to open.
