Is it Because there’s no God in Israel?
“Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?” (2 Kings 1:3). When Ahaziah fell ill, instead of turning to God for help, he thought Baal was the best option. Do we ever do that? Is God our first option for help, or the last resort? In times of crisis, instead of praying to God, do we turn to doctors first? Instead of reading God’s Word, do turn to best sellers on Amazon? Instead of doing what’s right, do we turn to sin?
Is it because there’s no God in Israel that we’re seeking other options? When we turn everywhere but to God for help, we’re living like God doesn’t exist. When He’s our last resort, we treat God like the kid no one wants on their team. We pick everyone else and when God is the last one left, we roll our eyes and say, “Fine, I guess I’ll take God.” May it never be! It’s fine to read books, go to doctors, and form a team of resources, provided we seek God first (Matt. 6:33). There is a God in Israel and without Him, there is no help.
