Let the Prophets Strengthen Your Prayers
Isaiah said God is the one true God, He is in control, He judges the wicked, the gods of the nations are false, and only He can save us! When the Assyrians trapped King Hezekiah in Jerusalem like a caged bird, he prayed to God — and his prayer sounded like Isaiah’s preaching! “O LORD, the God of Israel, who are enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth…they were not gods but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone…deliver us from his hand that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.” (2 Kings 19:15).
Hezekiah’s friendship with Isaiah strengthened his prayer life! We may not have Isaiah in the flesh like Hezekiah did, but we still have his writings. In fact, we have the leather-bound (and digital) writings of all of God’s prophets within reach every day! One of the best ways to strengthen our prayers is to pray the truths we learn from God’s Word. The more we read about who He is, what He’s done, what He’s like, and what He’s all about, the stronger our prayers become. If you want to pray like Hezekiah, make good friends with God’s prophets.
