Marriage Challenge: Refrain From Criticism

Marriage Challenge: Refrain From Criticism

If you’ve ever read The Love Dare, you may remember the first dare. The book contains forty marriage dares (challenges), one per day. The first one is the hardest of all.

“Although love is communicated in a number of ways, our words often reflect the condition of our heart. For the next day, resolve to demonstrate patience and to say nothing negative to your spouse at all. If the temptation arises, choose not to say anything. It’s better to hold your tongue than to say something you’ll regret.”

I challenge you to try this tomorrow. In fact, I challenge you to see how many days in the next two weeks you can pull it off. You may be amazed how effective you are as a spouse when you stop all criticism and state any concern in a positive way. Your spouse may be amazed too.

“…with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love…”

-Ephesians 4:32
