What’s God Doing in your Life Lately?
Outside the pulpit, I’ve realized I don’t talk about God enough. Maybe it’s because we all assume we have Him in common, but I don’t notice other Christians talking much about God to each other either. We talk about food, sports, the weather, our health, hobbies, what we did on Friday night, where we plan to go on vacation, but there isn’t much God talk and I’d like to be the change I want to see by asking this powerful question more often: “What’s God doing in your life lately?” Consider the benefits!
1) It focuses us on spiritual things. 2) It avoids the superficial “fine” answer to “how are you?” 3) It encourages growth. If we can’t see any way God is changing our hearts, minds, or lives, that’s a problem. 4) It encourages gratitude. If we’re going through hard times, it’s refreshing to remind ourselves how God is working in us even through trial. 5) The more we appreciate how God is working in our lives, the more influential we’ll be on those who don’t know Him. “Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts, and I will tell of Your greatness. They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness and will shout joyfully of Your righteousness.” (Psalm 145:6-7)
