Pray for a Hard Head
I love what God told Ezekiel before He sent him out; “I have made your face as hard as their faces and your forehead as hard as their foreheads. Like emery harder than flint I have made your forehead. Do not be afraid of them or be dismayed before them, though they are a rebellious house.” (Ezekiel 3:8-9). Before I became a preacher, I tried selling Verizon FiOS (TV/Internet/Phone) door to door. I quit after two weeks. It was brutal. People already hated my guts just for being on their property, then I was supposed to convince them to give me money? Forget it! My manager made it look easy, but that’s because nothing fazed him. The man had dragon-scales for skin, I’m talkin’ plated armor! People could yell and scream at him, he’d take it with a smile, wait until they calmed down, then close the deal.
That’s how we need to be with evangelism. We (myself included) are too sensitive to rejection. Jesus said most people will be hard-headed and reject the gospel (Matt. 7:13). Let’s pray daily that God will make us more hard-headed than the people we’re trying to reach. We’ll need it!
