Marriage Challenge: Sacrifice for Your Spouse
Marriage Challenge: Sacrifice for Your Spouse
The New American Oxford Dictionary defines ‘sacrifice’ as “the act of giving up something valued for the sake of something else regarded as more important or worthy.” Healthy marriages are full of sacrifice.
In your marriage, do you routinely give up things (activities, possessions, plans, pursuits) you value in order to serve, support, or connect with to your spouse? This is true love.
Your new marriage challenge is to make a list of three sacrifices you can make for your spouse that you don’t normally make and follow through on that list for the next two weeks. This challenge might be a little—or extremely—painful, but that’s the point of sacrifice. When you do this, you’ll show your spouse that you regard him/her as more important than yourself.
“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
