What do you Seek?
“Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples…and Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, ‘What do you seek?’” (John 1:35,38). As we start a six-month study of our Lord Jesus Christ, what do you seek? In the Bible, some sought Him to confirm what they already believed (John 3:2-12), to settle debates about interesting questions (3:19-20), to tear Him down (5:18), to be impressed by His miracles (John 6:2), to have an endless supply of daily bread and comfort (6:26), to get Him to punish the sinners around them (8:3-5), and to justify themselves before Him (8:33). Some today seek Jesus for happiness, as a fashion accessory, as a genie who grants wishes, and as a guarantee of health and wealth.
What do you seek? Before Jesus asked John’s disciples that question, John proclaimed, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” (John 1:36).
