Insight from 2019
When the disciples saw Jesus walk on water and stop the wind, “they were utterly astonished” (Mark 6:51). The reason is unexpected. “For they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves, but their heart was hardened” (6:52). The disciples should not have been astonished at all! They were astonished because they still didn’t understand who they were dealing with. Mark’s telling us they should have! They just watched Jesus feed 10,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and two fish! They saw it, but they still didn’t get the lesson.
Sometimes we don’t learn from our experiences either; we miss the lesson. What did you see in 2019? What did you learn? What did God do for us? What strengths of His were made clear? What weaknesses of ours were made clear? May it never be said of us, “They had not gained any insight from 2019, but their heart was hardened.” The more insight we gain from the past, the more faith we’ll have for the future. Clear 2020 vision starts with clear 2019 vision.
