Bible Bits: Praise from Rock Bottom

 

“But at the end of that period, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever;

For His dominion is an everlasting dominion,

And His Kingdom endures from generation to generation.

All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing,

But He does according to His will in the host of heaven

And among the inhabitants of earth;

And no one can ward off His hand

Or say to Him, ‘What have You done?'”

Daniel 4:34-35, NASB

 

God humbled Nebuchadnezzar, the arrogant king of Babylon, by causing him to lose his mind and live like a wild animal for a period of time. In the above passage Nebuchadnezzar recounts the moment he came to his senses and realized for the first time who was really in charge.

 

Have you ever hit rock bottom? Sometimes that’s what it takes to open our eyes to our inadequacy and our dependence on the Lord. As the sovereign Most High, He deserves all the credit for any success we experience in this life. The sooner we learn that, the better—preferably before we hit rock bottom!
